Following a day where it rained non-stop with more than 76mm (3”) falling, we celebrated the close of the 2011 competition year with our 2011 SCLB Presentation Night at the Front Beach Cafe.  Those who were able to make it given the terrible conditions had the opportunity to share conversation, be entertained by Oscar, Herb and Ben, check out Yestin’s new DVD and enjoy some very nice nibbles.

Thanks to Laney for once again making the very nice trophies and to Bob and Noel for organising the evening and sourcing the other awards (books and DVD’s) that our 2011 winners received.

Club members are asked to donate yummy Christmas table food items for the Torquay Food Aid Christmas hamper appeal.  Torquay Food Aid identifies families in crisis in our community and makes up hampers for their Christmas meal.  They can manage the staple food items but struggle with the nice extras we all love so much.

Donated food items can be dropped off to me at Surf World before December 15.

What happens when you and your old mal part company in not the best of circumstances?

Surfcoast Longboarders completed another very successful Winter Classic at The Spot last weekend. With marginal surf conditions on Saturday a decision was made to run and complete the Old Mal, Trad and Junior divisions in anticipation of a small swell increase on Sunday. Head judge Stui Hawken and his SEDA students did a superb job judging all heats. Matt Martin from Global Surf Industries provided plenty of alternative surf craft for competitors to experience between heats. The local surf industries and businesses generously donated sought after product for the Saturday night auction at the Front Beach Café which generated much needed dollars for a local charity. A combination of 15 minute heats, small swell increase and efficient organisation ensured all divisions were completed mid Sunday afternoon. With many competitors heading to Port MacQuarie shortly to compete in the Nationals, the SCLB Winter Classic provided another excellent, competitive opportunity for all Victorian longboarders.
