AUSSIE CHAMPIONS

Well Done to Scott Wintle for an awesome result at the recent Australian 'Old Mal' titles held at Crescent Head he was the soul Victorian present at the competition and came away with a 3rd place in the 0/40's (pre 1967' ) division! Another great result for a Surfcoast longboarder.

Congratulations to Emma on becoming the first Australian Open Womens Stand Up Paddle Champion.

Congratulations also to Greg Brown on winning the Australian O/45 Australian Title on the weekend.

Michael Pinney on placing 3rd in the O/35’s final, Brian Kuit, 4th in the O/55’s Final and Kristal Gerbach 3rd in the Open Womens Final. With the Victorian Team, placing 2nd in the interstate teams challenge

Overall a great week of surfing for the Surfcoast Longboarders with many others getting through to the 3rd round and Semi’s in their respective divisions.

With the 2nd place in the teams event our surfers should be in a much better position in 2011 as I am told this result is the basis of seeding into the main draw of the Aussie Titles.

Once again well done to all our reps and we look forward to catching up at our next club comp on Saturday September 4th at Point Impossible.

Cheers

Wayne

RESULTS FEB COMP Print E-mail

The first club comp for 2010 was run in offshore, clean, fun 2-3ft waves at Jan Juc last Saturday. The small, clean, straight swell and hot weather produced ideal surfing conditions after the recent run of poor, summer surf around the coast. All club members revelled in the glassy, beachbreak conditions. Results in all divisions:

Open 1 Adam Lynch 2 Jordan Nobel 3 John Lane 4 Will Cousins. Women 1 Sam Suendermann 2 Emma Webb 3 Molly Powell 4 Sasha Leitmanis. Junior 1 Will Cousins 2 Nathan McMahon 3 Sam Suendermann 4 Molly Powell.

Old Mal ! Jordan Nobel 2 Scott Wintle 3 Sasha Leitmanis 4 Rob McConnell. Trad 1 Adam Lynch 2 Bob Smith 3 Nigel Kidd 4 Phil Angelovich. Over 45 1 Glenn Priddle 2 Rob McConnell 3 Kate Sullivan 4 Bruce Urquhart. Over 50 1 John Lane 2 Brian Kuit 3 Phil Angelovich 4 Russell Brown. Over 55 1 Al Spence 2 Bud White. Over 60 1 Bob Smith 2 Nigel Kidd.

Next club comp Saturday 6th March, meet at Pt Impossible 7.30am. All welcome.

HATHA YOGA

“At  77 years of  age Barry McGuigan won the 2006 Over 60s Australian Longboard Championships. Since the age of 21 Barry has practiced Hatha Yoga for 90 minutes every day” (Ref.Australian Yoga Life, 2007)

Yoga strengthens the body and calms the mind, increasing mental clarity, aiding concentration & steadying the emotions, bringing awareness & the ability to be still.

Trish has over 20 years experience and has been teaching Yoga since 1999.

Bodily health is a balanced state of all anatomical & physiological systems, where each part of the body functions at full potential. Yoga teaches that this well-being may be achieved through the practice of postures (asanas), some of which are active and physically demanding, while others are relaxing and restorative.
Yoga asanas work in many ways by improving posture, strengthening the immune, circulatory, digestive and endocrine systems.
Yoga offers one of the most effective ways of stretching for sport as it involves both components of the muscle/tendon unit.
YOGA,  STRENGTH & INJURY RISK
Flexibility is one component of a training programme that can help to reduce a sports persons’ risk of injury. Another important factor is strength, especially core strength.
The core plays an essential role in firmly stabilizing the spine and allows power to be efficiently translated from one side of the body to the other or from the lower limbs to the upper limbs.
Maximum efficiency can be obtained by working through a series of asanas specifically designed for the individual needs of a surfer.

Trish has over 20 years experience and has been teaching Yoga since 1999.
